Children’s Photographer: Lifestyle shoot inside Target.

Children’s lifestyle photoshoot inside a Target store in Savannah, GA.

As a children’s photographer, and a mom of three, I am constantly thinking of unique ways to photograph my children. One day, when traveling home from Savannah, Georgia, as we were passing Target my two year old daughter starting pointing and saying she wanted to go shopping. Or in her words, “right there mommy. RIGHT THERE!” while pointing out the window. At that moment it hit me, I need to do a photoshoot with her inside Target!

My daughter (Scarlett’s) best friend lives across the street from us. Her mom and I take the girls (and my youngest) to target quite often while their older siblings are in school. And when I say my daughter’s best friend, that is the understatement of the year. The very first words out of Scarlett’s mouth in the mornings as I’m pulling her out of her bed are “Kenny home mommy? I want Kenny.” (Kenny is short for Kennedy).

I’m sure you can guess where I’m going with this. What would be better than photographing Scarlett in Target? Photographing her in Target with her BFF!!! So, that’s exactly what we did! If only pictures had sound so you all could hear the laughter coming out of these two girls. They were having the time of their lives!

Esther, thanks for coming along with me to Target to not only shop, like we always do, but to be my assistant in getting random chairs off of the top shelves, getting the kids to laugh, and making sure no one ran off with Jacob in the cart while I photographed the girls! You’re the bomb dot com!

Birth Photography – Emilia’s Birth Story

The birth story of Emilia Rose in Savannah, Georgia on April 29, 2017.

Birth photography is one of my passions. Therefore, when you live in Savannah and have some pretty cool neighbors, who then move 15min away, and then find out they are pregnant… of course you offer to shoot their birth story for them. That’s exactly what happened with Ryan and Rachel. They were the best neighbors ever (and I’m not just saying that because they are going to read this). They would talk to our kids, chit chat with us, bring our grill over when it got delivered to their house, and even our dogs liked each other (as long as there was a fence between them of course). Then one day, they moved. Insert sad face here. Don’t get me wrong, we were happy for them with their new (totally adorable) house, but still sad to be losing such awesome neighbors.

A few months had passed and when Ryan came by to pick up some of their mail from the old house, he informed us that Rachel was expecting!!! Me, being me, told him that if they needed a photographer I happened to know someone. 😉 (I can be a bit sarcastic from time to time… in a good way).

Fast foward 8 months and messages back and forth and it’s the evening of the 29th of April. I received a text from Ryan that Rachel’s water had just broke. Once they got to the birth center they would let me know. To say I kept checking my phone every 2 minutes to make sure I didn’t miss a text or call from him is an understatment. I finally got the text to head to the birth center about an hour later. Needless to say, I kissed the kids and husband and was off, safely of course with only minimal speeding.

Upon arriving, Rachel was in the shower and laboring great. She didn’t want to know how far dilated she was when she arrived so it really was a guessing game to see how fast miss Emilia wanted to get here. After the shower, Rachel then moved to the bed where she tried multiple positions to help her with the pain and to help Emilia get here quicker. Finally, after 5.5hours of her water breaking, miss Emilia entered this world!

Rachel was so great and such an inspiration and Ryan was a terrific coach. I was in awe with how calm he stayed during the whole thing! And we cannot forget Rachel’s mom who showed up while we were all waiting for Emilia. Watching her talk to her daughter and comfort and coach her during contractions was something I’m not sure I will ever forget.

Happy Birthday sweet Emilia! You are already so very loved!

Savannah’s Birth Story

The birth story of Savannah Grace in Savannah, Georgia on April 27, 2017.

It was your average Thursday morning in Savannah, Georgia with the birds chirping, the sun shining and your children and husband waking you up singing Happy Birthday. Okay, so not your ‘typical’ Thursday morning but ‘typical’ for it being the anniversary of your birth.

Birthday. The day you were born into this world. The day you took your first breath, cried your first cry. A day that would never be forgotten by the people closest to you. This is all the making of a day of birth.

10:40am I receive a text from Erin (mom) saying her contractions were getting stronger and closer together and that they were on their way to the hospital. Once there, they would let me know if the doctors were going to keep her or send her home on a false alarm. The moment the word came that she wouldn’t be leaving the hospital without her baby girl in her arms, I grabbed my camera and drove off to the hospital.

Shortly after 12pm I arrived at Memorial Hospital. Erin was extremely calm and resting. Not long after arriving though, little Savannah decided she didn’t want to wait any longer and that it was time to meet her mom and dad. Erin became super mom, progressed rapidly, and gave birth to miss Savannah after being at the hospital only a few short hours.

1:32pm on April 27, 2017, miss Savannah arrived! Being so far from family, Grandma and Grandpas couldn’t be here to welcome their new granddaughter into the world. So, they did it the next best way. Through Facetime! At only a few hours new, Savannah was able to meet her grandparents and an aunt, all while never leaving mom.

There was one person, however, that she needed to meet still that would require her leaving the comfort of mom’s arms. Her ride and die. Her best friend. The one who will protect her from other kids. The one whom she will steal toys from, get in fights with, and laugh until she cries. Her big brother!

Erin and Brandon, thank you again for allowing me the opportunity to capture Savannah’s birth story for you. You all did an amazing job and she is absolutely adorable.

For a birth photographer, there is no greater way to celebrate your birthday than capturing and witnessing another life being born. Happy Birthday Savannah!
